Golden Residents and Friends,
We have all come to Golden for
different reasons, and whether our sweeping scenic views are those of Lookout
Mountain, the Table Mountains, the Foothills and Hogback, or vistas
up the Golden Valley, we all know how fortunate we are to live in a
city with many natural areas, both protected and unprotected.
For nearly two years, City staff
and hundreds of residents have worked on Golden's Vision 2030 Plan which included
outdoor neighborhood gatherings and community-wide meetings at Golden High
School. One of the outcomes is a set of Vision Statements about what many
residents see as important in defining our city now and over the next 20 years.
What lies ahead are
deliberations and decisions by our City Council. We
would like to see strong Natural Area Vision Statements incorporated into the
Vision 2030 Plan. By building Natural Values into the Vision 2030 Plan, we can
ensure a commitment by the City to preserve and enhance the significant natural
lands that are important to us now and that will be even more so in the future. Natural areas
give our city the distinctive character we value. For example,
Natural areas are buffers that keep Golden uniquely separated
from the Metro Denver area;
Natural areas are entryways to Golden and backdrops to our city and
our neighborhoods; and
Natural areas provide outdoor recreation opportunities that promote healthy lifestyles.
We are asking you to please read
and sign the letter to our City Council affirming the importance of Natural
Values that define Golden and to have these Values be part of the City's Vision
2030 Plan for the next 20 years. You can do this
online or by printing
the
letter and mailing a signed copy to Golden City
Council, City of Golden, 911 10th Street,
Golden, CO 80401.
Whether we are
hikers, dog walkers, runners, birders, bicyclists or other active
users of our creek, trails, and parks, or whether we simply
appreciate having natural spaces that contribute to our scenic
views, Natural Values are significant in making Golden the unique
and desirable place that it is.
Thank you in advance for
your support in making sure that Natural Values are an important
part of the Vision 2030 Plan. If you choose to e-mail your own letter to your city councilor, you are
welcome to draw upon some of the statements in the letter to the councilors.
Sincerely,
Steering Committee to Support Golden's
Natural Areas
